In our careers of creating Alyssa & Anna, the question we get asked the most is "What/who inspires you?" The answer to that question is simple, girls do. A&A girls are our muses and the very women we design jewelry for. But what makes an A&A girl? Passion does. A&A girls are passionate about life and what they do. They're sophisticated dreamers and undoubtedly creative. They have big goals and even bigger hearts, which inspires us, endlessly. San Francisco stylist and digital infulencer, Kelsey King, is a beautiful example of an A&A girl. She hones in her own style and puts together the perfect patterns, shapes and textures, using herself as her canvas. She arranges the simplest pieces, yet manages to create such a stunning look (can we have her closet, please?). We're honored that she wears Alyssa & Anna jewelry and so thrilled to be able to feature her on our site as a Creative We Adore. Read on to learn more about Kelsey ❤
TELL US ABOUT YOURSELF! WHAT ARE SOME INTERESTING FACTS?
Hi Hi! I live in San Francisco - the Nob Hill neighborhood with my boyfriend, Erling, and a micro, over-stuffed, classic SF closet. I graduated in December with a degree in Fashion Merchandising and Marketing with an emphasis in Editorial Styling from the Academy of Art University. Currently, my schedule is always different depending on the day - I am a freelance stylist, a digital influencer and resident shop girl at Le Point a minimalist concept shop in the Mission district. Super excited to say, I am going on my first buying trip during New York Fashion Week with Le Point. Doing a little bit of everything post-university is keeping me sane after the strict schedule I have had for the last four years. I am not certain I will ever be the person going to the same desk or job every day - the inspiration I get from constant change, and the unfamiliar keep me happy.
DESCRIBE YOUR STYLE!
Less is more for my style - minimalism is a style I aspire too, and I am always working on pairing my outfits down to their simplest form. I feel drawn to unusual construction and fabrics over color and pattern.
WHAT INSPIRED YOU TO PRESENT YOUR PERSONAL STYLE DIGITALLY?
I have always wanted to start a personal style and culture blog but never really have gotten around to creating a full blown site. I never felt compelled to write about my style or what I think others should wear - I honestly believe personal style is such a beautiful way to express yourself, ideas, and inspirations. I prefer the simplicity of Instagram on a visual and concise level to share my style and be inspired by others too.
Instagram has been such a great platform for me to work with brands I am passionate about and connect with aesthetically. I am currently working with the accessories brand Clare V. as a Brand Ambassador, creating digital content and propelling the brand further with my social media grasp.
Most of my free time I am working on an online zine that uses fashion as a medium to portray our society and culture as it is both past and present. I am creating a space that shows fashion as more than just clothes but as a language, we are all familiar with and can connect to personally.
WHAT INSPIRES YOU THE MOST?
I love the inspiration I get from travel and meeting new people from completely different backgrounds and having those magical moments where you share your culture and see that it has no divide.
Other major inspirations for me would have to be my family and friends, art, architecture, and I am so obsessed with film. If I weren't in the fashion industry, I would love to be doing something with the production of a film.
WHO IS YOUR STYLE ICON?
I could probably give you a spreadsheet of my style icons - I have way too many. From the past, I am in love with icons from the French New Wave like Anna Karina and Jane Birkin.
In my personal style, today and the contemporary icons I admire are: Elin Kling Swedish designer of Toteme and I am a forever fangirl of the Olsen twins since birth - The Row and Elizabeth and James are always so inspirational and aspirational.
WHERE IS YOUR FAVORITE PLACE TO SHOP?
Any well-curated shop whether it is brick and mortar or an online retailer, I will always respect. I feel beyond lucky to work for a shop I love in SF, Le Point. Some of my favorite brands we carry are Tibi, Ryan Roche, Opening Ceremony and Clare V.
Other than Le Point, I am an avid online shopper. I constantly have carts filled at e-tailers such as - Acne Studios, La Garconne, Lisa Says Gah, Fashion Bunker, and COS. They have such unique and timeless selections at different price points.
WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE ACCESSORY?
For Accessories, I love simple and feminine jewelry - Maria Black a Danish jewelry designer is my go to for everyday jewelry and, of course, my Alyssa and Anna ring I got for Christmas from my sister that has become a staple jewelry piece for me!
Needless to state, being a 90's chick - I am loving the resurgence of choker scarves and necklaces that are happening everywhere in fashion.
WHAT ARE SOME OF YOUR FUTURE ASPIRATIONS?
Some of my big goals are to stay inspired, and travel more - that's important to me. Career wise - I just want to produce work that I am proud of and put all of myself into it. Eventually, I would love to have a concept shop / coffee shop as my end goal, but mostly I am excited for the journey of setting goals and accomplishing some and not letting the ones that fall behind define me.
