Modern, vibrant, and aesthetically pleasing is exactly how we'd describe the beautiful work Milwaukee based graphic designer, Logan Reichenberger, creates on his computer. Currently a student at the University of Wisconsin, Milwaukee, Logan is working on finishing his BFA in Design and Visual Communication. We are absolutely inspired by his art, his kindness, his innovative mind and his passion to turn his visions into a career - so we just had to feature him on our site. We're sure that you're going to love him just as much as we do.
WHAT SPARKED YOUR INTEREST IN GRAPHIC DESIGN?
My interest in design was sparked at a very young age, as I was a creative child that liked to paint and create things with my hands. At first, in college, I was a Painting & Drawing major, but I took my first Introduction to Design class and Intro to Typography class at the University of Milwaukee- and that's what made me switch to design. I fell in love with visually telling a story, captivating someone just by visuals, and digital creation and packaging design.
WHAT DO YOU LOVE THE MOST ABOUT GRAPHIC DESIGN?
The thing I love most about design is just how far it sinks into our lives. Everything is designed, right down to a cup or a spoon, and most people don't even think about it. Everything has thought put into it, some more than others, and I believe that it's my mission to create beautiful, useful things that inspire or change people for the better.
WHAT ARE SOME OF THE MATERIALS/PROGRAMS YOU WORK WITH?
I absolutely love working digitally, and it's where I absolutely shine the most. I use the Adobe Creative Suite, and I love typography, so I would say that the layout and typographic setting program Adobe InDesign is my most used program. A close second is Adobe Illustrator, which is a computer program that lets you create vector (scalable without loss) images and graphics. As I mature as a designer, I see myself using different programs and going even further into my web design interest.
WHAT IS YOUR CREATIVE PROCESS?
I am an organized person by nature (thanks mom), so I keep my files and thoughts organized. My creative process, though, is one that follows a loose structure and is quite sporadic. Just recently for my Design and Visual Communication class, we had to do a book or cards project. I started with a pair of glasses as an illustration and ended up with a children's imagination game. So if that tells you anything, I like to let my mind wander. My logic always comes in and keeps me in place, though.
WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE PIECE AND/OR COLLECTION YOU'VE EVER CREATED?
My favorite work I have done, would have to be the WHAT DO YOU SEE? imagination cards project I finished for my Design and Visual Communication class. A close second would be my Clairvoyant typographic specimen poster no the font Futura, which is my favorite font.
WHO IS YOUR BIGGEST INSPIRATION?
My biggest inspiration are my classmates, professors, and the world around me. Every day as students we are pushed so hard to become better designers, workers, and better well rounded people. My classmates give positive and critical feedback that we all need, and my professors give me the confidence and courage to take risks with design and ideas. The world around me is a template of something for me to make better, change, and help. Just by walking around I can learn so much about good and bad design, and with this I take it back into my ideas and process.
WHAT DO YOU HOPE FOR IN THE FUTURE (IN REGARDS TO YOUR CRAFT)?
For the future, I want to become a designer that not only makes beautiful things, but things that enrich people's lives for the better. Whether that be a beautiful invitation or as far out as a prosthetic leg (I'm taking a class on that next semester, that's why I mentioned it), the future of design for me really has no limits. Thinking more realistically, I see myself working with packaging design, web design, and paper craft such as book design.
WHAT ARE SOME INTERESTING FACTS ABOUT YOURSELF?
Interesting facts! I am a vegetarian, 22 years of age, and slightly socially awkward. I love neon colors, black, marble, and anything synthetic. I listen to electronic music, know a little Spanish, and absolutely love animals- most importantly, dogs. I'm obsessed with environmental issues and am an avid fighter for climate justice. I love fashion, interior design, typography, and product design- I'm one of those people that buys things at the grocery store based on it's packaging.
Thank you so much for reading about me, and I cannot wait to see what my future holds. Until then, I'll be working my butt off within the crazy world of design. - Logan
